WHAT IS A LEXUS PLUG-IN HYBRID?
A plug-in hybrid (or PHEV) has both petrol engine and an electric motor. The battery, which can be charged at home or at a charging station on the go, is larger than the one to be found in a standard hybrid. This means you can travel further using electric power alone in EV mode creating zero emissions. The new Lexus NX, for example, allows you to enjoy 65 km of emissions-free driving or up to 8- km when using city street, PHEVs also offer the added security of a petrol engine which operates in a highly efficient hybrid mode at higher speeds but also provides a back-up when the battery is depleted.
